He was a Navy Corpsman in the Korean War where he participated in the Inchon Landing in 1950 and earned a Purple Heart. After service he was a teacher and principal plus a football and basketball coach in his hometown of Sioux City, Iowa. In 1973 they moved to St.Charles, MO and worked for Contel Telephone Corporation as a Director of Training and spent 3 years in Cairo Egypt helping upgrade their telephone systems.
